Bird Walker 2008 Wall Calendar

I'm pleased to announce that my 2009 wall calendar is available now through my on-line store. It features photos I've taken since December 2007 in northern California, central Florida, and the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.

More of my work

Want to keep up with my latest birding trips? I've built a birding database and bird photo gallery called birdWalker, where you can see galleries of photos for each trip and location. My goal is to photograph every species on our life list.

I've been posting my more artistic work on a photo sharing website called flickr, where I enjoy the company of a growing community of bird photographers. Since uploading to flickr is so easy, you might find new images while I'm still in the field.
I'm also writing a blog called Bill's Photography Journal where I chronicle my adventures photographing in the field and link to the best pictures I make there. Look here for more details on what it was like in the field recently. I'm more likely to update this than birdWalker when I'm in the field.

About the Artist

Bill's interest in wildlife photography dates back to his grade school years. His father, himself a gifted photographer, exposed him to the work of Ansel Adams. His mother encouraged him to attend a summer nature camp where he kept his very first birding trip list.

Since moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1994, Bill has traveled throughout California and as far as Texas, Oregon, New Jersey, and New Mexico in search of birds and opportunities to photograph them. He hopes to give the viewer a sense of the beauty and wonder he sees every day through his lens.

About the Equipment

In the field, Bill uses a Canon 500mm f/4L IS lens, Canon 1.4X II teleconverter, and a Canon 20D camera body on a Gitzo 1320 tripod with Wimberley II Head. He uses the camera in Raw mode, writing to SanDisk Ultra II 2GB and Lexar 1GB 40X Compact Flash cards. Bill catalogs his images using Adobe Lightroom on a MacBook Pro. He processes them using Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop CS2.

For printing, Bill uses acid-free, pH-balanced mats and 8-color Epson UltraChrome Hi-Gloss pigment ink with Epson Premium Lustre Photo Paper for long-lived, archival quality prints. Framed prints are available at 8" x 10" for $75, 11" x 14" for $120.
