The pool where I swim has the depth marked at various places, 3 1/2 feet at the shallow end. The water level reaches the middle of the three and I noticed, while swimming laps, how the three looked more-or-less complete from below, even though the upper half was just the reflection of the lower half. The "1/2" and the "FT." were not quite so lucky, making somewhat cryptic patterns. I went back the following day with my underwater camera and took some pictures. In this one I managed to get the angle right so you could see part of the same sign above water as well. I adjusted the color in photoshop to reduce (but not eliminate) the cyans, which are very strong in underwater photos.
